A poem I will read again and again and again...

I have read and re-read this poem a thousand times and it always leaves me breathless; sometimes it leaves me teary-eyed. These books are beautifully, perfectly, illustrated and printed. I want to keep some on hand at all times, because I never know when I'll meet someone that needs to read it. Thank you

With Tom's kind consent I use Sometimes a Wild God during Fire Rituals that I occassionally hold. The photo is me with over 30 people, some of whom were in tears, because of the power in Tom's words.

My friend Fran read this to me when I went to see her a few weeks back, and I was stunned and delighted. Before Fran had finished reading I knew that I wanted to show it or read it to everybody I know - at least those who have a brain - and thereafter ordered several copies. The feeling of untidy, inconvenient revelation made me think somewhat of poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, and also of Rilke. Messy mysticism or something. Thank you. Down the road from where I live (Bruton, Somerset) there is an art gallery, Hauser and Wirth, at which there are many artistic and cultural activities which should include your story telling/travelling player thing. If you should come up from the People's Republic of Totnes on a reconnaissance mission or whatever, we should love to see you for a pint or a cup of tea or whatever. The printed edition of Sometimes a Wild God is a beautiful thing, simple yet elegant. The cover is hard-wearing and the text is just the right size for when I want to read the poem aloud to share it with someone.

This small book ( it measures 4 inches by 5 and three quarters ) possesses a power out of all proportion to its size. On the front cover is a most wonderful and mysterious picture of a crouching man, his eyes closed in deep introspection, his body etched with signs and symbols : sun, snake, bear, leaves.........The poem within takes you by surprise and seems to reach right out of the pages and grab hold of you. It is shocking, disturbing, frightening. But at the same time it has a magnificent beauty and elemental energy which are cathartic and healing. The poem is printed in clear black lettering on rich cream pages. It is lovely to look at, a delight to hold in the palm of your hand, a secret weapon in your pocket!

I’ve bought somewhere around 10 copies of Sometimes a Wild God (I’ve lost count). I regularly give it as a gift, as well as sharing the spoken word version and the Hedgespoken website online. It is a poem that speaks to my soul - my one wish is that there was a gender-neutral or female-oriented version as well. The poetry is powerful, shamanic, rich. I cry every time I read it. Every time.

Wonderful book!!

I first met this book a couple of years ago - it was love and tears at first reading: the words are so raw and so strong they split open your heart. I have the poem in book form and in poster form, but this is the second copy I have bought as a gift - both for people who I knew would love it as deeply as I do. They did. Now the latest recipient is planning to buy it for two of her friends that she knows it will resonate with. We have all I understood it in slightly different ways, and the discussion that followed has led us to reread the poem to ‘find’ each other’s meaning. It is just perfect.

I love this little wild incantation poem that reads like an adult version of Where the Wild Things Are. It celebrates the wildness in each of us that we may have forgotten yet need a gentle reminder of from time to time. At once awkward and lyrical, weirdly familiar and oddly comforting, it is a poem I will return to again and again.

The book arrived in good time, well packed and beautifully printed. The cover board in particular is welcoming in the hand, with good crisp print on the pages. The poem itself is evocative and unlike anything else I've ever read, so much so I bought two copies - one to keep and one to gift.

I have to confess I am not a poetry lover - it usually does nothing for me. This is an incredible poem! If you just let your mind go, and let the images of the story come out, it will be a most enjoyable 7 minutes. That is about all it takes to read it. And then go back and read it again. And share it with your friends and seek their reactions. As I am writing this, I imagine that those that know of Tom Bomdadil, will understand the imagery immediately. In this current turbulent time, we all need something that brings the dead back to life.

I bought 7 copies of ‘Sometimes a wild god’. A friend of mine had been given a copy, I loved it! 6 for Christmas presents and one for me. For me it’s who I am but more importantly what I forget to be. It’s a gem and a celebration of all our true selves.

I only recently came across Tom's reading of this poem through YouTube. Listening was a very emotional experience for me and marked a recognition of a way of life demanding its due, especially when feeling less than wild in the suburbs of Boston! And so I bought a handful of the wee books; one for myself and friends and my son whom will all welcome this Wild God! This is interesting thought provoking writing, in nicely designed booklets. I don't know if all are the same but these two seemed to be confronting the reader with the present day disconnect between us and Nature. Deep haunting words.

When I first read the poem it made me want to cry, so beautiful and a poignant reminder of to acknowledge and reunite with the wild within ourselves. The Wild God comes when we need him the most...

Such a treasure!!! Receiving it as a gift in the post, filled me with intrigue...the adventure had begun before the enveloppe was open!! The magic flowed out as I withdrew the skillfully drawn book. Obvious interaction between storyteller and artist, the comprehension by Rima of the in-depth narrative of the story-teller Tim gave us a clear concept of The Wild god on the cover which accompanied us through the journey. Each time I read the story, it opens up my mind to a new understanding. Thoroughly enjoyable, this will get me through the Winter!!!

It is such a wonderful book, and has evoked such a feeling of longing within me: A longing for something that has been lost within each of us. I loved this poem from the first time I read it on Facebook. Tom was very helpful when I couldn't locate it online and then I ordered it immediately. I read it every day. The book is small but of good quality, with nice printing and paper quality.

I was introduced to this poem by a moderator during an online retreat. In commenting on one of my posts she thought I would like it. It is a poem that I read over and over and over.
